Ever wondered how to get kids, young people, and other family members interested in learning more about the people in their Family Tree? Our solution is to make it FUN!

Introducing ThisIsFamily. An app that provides the user a fun way to learn about their Family Tree by creating avatars representing themselves, family members, AND their ancestors throughout history!

First, they ADD people to their Family Tree by responding to prompts for the basic information (name, birth date, birth place, death date, etc.) about themselves and their family members (living or deceased).

Second, the user BUILDS the avatar representing each members in their Family Tree by selecting from a wide variety of facial features and era-dependent hair styles, clothes, hats, etc.—all in living color. In addition, they can view how a family member might have looked at different times in their life using a Timeline feature.

Then, they USE these avatars to tell stories from the lives of family members by placing the avatar(s) of selected family members in the provided backgrounds or backgrounds they add.

Next, they can CREATE a Photo Album with family portraits, group photos, and snapshots of family events.

Finally, they can SHARE the images and information they learn with others using text, e-mail, Facebook, Twitter, and other online resources.

All of these experiences provide a FUN way for them to learn more about their family members and what makes them who they are. It also encourages them to talk with living relatives to learn more about the individuals in their Family Tree. In addition, it provides an incentive for them to dig deeper into their family history by accessing their Family Tree data directly from FamilySearch.org. Learning more about their Family Tree gives them a better self image and makes them better suited to face life’s challenges. In addition, these experiences will help strengthen family ties and build a stronger family unit.
